The Pakistan Fintech Forum III brought together central bank officials, regulators, fintech founders, and banking executives to outline a shared vision for accelerating digital financial inclusion. Leaders from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) emphasized progressive regulation, infrastructure upgrades like RAAST and ATS+, open banking frameworks, cloud-based sandboxes, and initiatives to enable alternative credit scoring, asset fractionalization, and secure interoperability. Discussions underscored the need to digitize informal sectors, enhance cybersecurity, and bridge gaps in access for unbanked and underserved populations, especially women, SMEs, and rural communities. Cryptocurrency regulation remained a contentious yet evolving topic, with stakeholders calling for balanced oversight to harness
its potential responsibly.
The year 2023 has brought with it a web of uncertainties, stemming from the lingering impact of COVID-19 on the global economy to inflationary pressures and volatile financial markets. While Fintech has transcended boundaries, becoming a global force that touches every aspect of our lives, there is a long way to go. Thereis a limitless potential of fintech in reshaping industries, mitigating risks, and driving innovation. It is important now to ask how fintech is empowering businesses and individuals across the globe and in Pakistan.
